GIVING DIGEST: More Than Pads: Restoring Dignity and Confidence at Good Hope Primary School, Buyala
In the quiet corners of Buyala, where access to basic menstrual products can determine a girl’s future, a powerful act of giving unfolded. Through the #RUMPS4RuralGirls initiative, and in partnership with DHL Uganda, our team visited Good Hope Primary School, not just to donate items, but to open up space for understanding, empowerment, and dignity.
The visit was layered with intentionality. First, we led a frank and affirming conversation around menstruation, breaking stigma, encouraging questions, and making space for the girls to feel seen and heard. Then came a hands-on session in which the girls learned to make their own reusable pads, a skill that gives them agency, sustainability, and pride. To seal the day with action, we distributed 67 Dwona Fempacks, containing 402 reusable menstrual pads, ensuring each girl walked away not just informed, but equipped.
This was more than a school visit, it was a reminder that menstrual health is not a luxury, but a right. It’s how we keep girls in school, nurture their dreams, and ensure that something as natural as a period never stands in the way of their potential. In the small act of giving a pad, we give presence, possibility, and power.
