Module 4 - Know your Money to Grow Your Money Session 1: Personal Financial Development

Danstan Kisule was the founding chairman of Y-Save in 2000. Y-Save is a saving and Investment scheme that is registered as a Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society Ltd. Y-Save inculcates the culture of saving and investing in its members. His leadership has steered Y-Save to become one of the leading savings and investment schemes in Uganda. He was first the Vice Chairperson from March 2012 to July 2014 and later became the Chairperson of Investment Clubs Association of Uganda (ICAU) from August 2014 to November 2016. He is one of the peer leaders of this association that brings together all Investment Clubs in Uganda

Danstan has helped start many savings groups and Co-operatives (Saving & Credit Co-operative Organisations (SACCO’s) in Uganda. He has also carried personal financial training sessions to organisations and individual groups. Some of the organisations that he has helped in setting up, train and mentor their staff savings schemes include: National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Umeme Ltd, Uganda Revenue Authority, Franciscan Investment Club (FIC) St Francis Makerere University, Kampala Corporate Women’s Co-operative and many others.

Danstan has also carried our personal financial management sessions for groups and organisations. Some of the organisations, where he has carried out sessions for their staff members include Absa bank (Formerly Barclay’s bank), National social security Fund (NSSF), The British High Commission, dfcu bank, Exim bank and many others. He has also been requested by the American Embassy to carry out financial literacy sessions for selected groups of individuals at the office premises of the embassy.

Danstan is a Civil & Building Engineer by profession. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil & Building Engineering) degree from Kyambogo University and post graduate qualifications in Management from Uganda Management Institute together with a one year both physical and on-line training in Strategic Business Management organised by SIDA in Sweden. Prior to joining Y-Save to work on a full-time basis as the Chief Executive Office in 2009, Danstan worked for National Housing & Construction Company Ltd, an organisation that constructs houses both for selling and renting out as a Maintenance Officer. He also has post graduate qualifications in management and Strategic Business management.
